I don’t know anyone named Prover, which is supposedly made up from medieval Welsh and has taken many variations through the ages. Prover is a family name like Procter. Its original use is not immediately discernible from its current spelling. And in Prover’s case the supposed Welsh origin might have been confused with an English origin from a verb. Online dating services offer introductions to and from people who want to find a date. Usually their users’ purpose is to form a romantic and/or sexual relationship. Some online dating services are also (or exclusively) matchmaking services–their goal is to match two people together with a goal of getting married. All kinds of schemes for dating exist. Video dating, speed dating, and telephone dating are all still common ways of getting to know other people. Phone sex isn’t quite the same thing, but it’s still common.
